Expert Design-Build Remodeling in Chicagoland, the North Shore, & the Northwest Suburbs
The Same Address, A New Home Inside
A whole home remodel lets your family stay in the neighborhood you love, on the lot you chose, in the school district that brought you here, with a home that finally fits the way you live. It's the most ambitious project a homeowner can take on without moving, and one of the smartest investments you can make in a home you plan to keep for years.
Skor Construction designs and builds whole home remodels across the Northwest Suburbs, North Shore, and Chicagoland for families ready to invest in a long-term home.
Most of the homes we remodel were built in the 80s or 90s, often as the first house a young couple bought, and now need to grow up with the family living in it. We rework floor plans, modernize systems, update kitchens and baths, refinish lower levels, and tie it all together with finishes and craftsmanship built for the long haul.
Update Every Room in One Project
The beauty of a whole home remodel is that everything happens at once, by one team, on one coordinated schedule. The scope is shaped around what your home needs and what your family wants out of the next chapter in it.
Floor Plan & Layout Changes
Most older homes were built with closed-off rooms and layouts that no longer fit how families live today. We open up main levels, reconfigure room flow, and reshape the home.
Kitchen & Bath Renovations
A whole home remodel is the right time to fully rebuild the kitchen, primary bath, secondary baths, and powder rooms. Doing them together with the rest of the project lets us coordinate plumbing, electrical, and finishes more efficiently than tackling them one at a time.
Basement Finishing
Many of our whole home remodeling clients add a finished basement to the scope, turning the lower level into a theater, gym, bar, guest suite, or family space that increases the home's usable square footage.
Systems & Infrastructure Updates
Older homes often need their electrical panels, HVAC distribution, plumbing rough-ins, and insulation brought up to current standards. A whole home remodel is the ideal time to handle this work, while walls are already open.
Exterior & Curb Appeal
Many of our clients pair an interior remodel with siding, windows, roofing, or a facade refresh so the outside of the home reflects the work happening on the inside.
Additions
A whole home project can also include a rear, side, or second-story addition when the existing footprint doesn't have the square footage your family needs.
Why Families Choose Skor For Whole Home Remodels.
A whole home remodel is a long, complex, deeply personal project. Here's how we approach it:
A Process Built For Long Projects
Whole home remodels run months at a time, and the experience depends as much on how the project is managed as how it's built. We keep clients informed at every stage with regular site visits, scheduled updates, and BuilderTrend, so you always know what's happening and what's coming next.
Design And Build Under One Team
Architects, interior designers, structural engineers, and our build team are all coordinated by us. You'll have one point of contact for the entire project instead of trying to keep multiple professionals aligned on your own.
A Builder You'll Still Want To Call In Ten Years
The clients we're proudest of are the ones who call us back years later for a basement, an addition, or a referral to a friend. Whole home remodels are the projects where that long-term relationship is built.
Frequently Asked Questions About Whole Home Remodels
- How Long Does a Whole Home Remodel Take?expand_more
- Most whole home remodels take between 6 and 12 months of active construction, depending on size, scope, and whether the project includes additions or major structural work. Larger homes, complex layout changes, and full system updates extend the timeline. Design, permits, and material selections typically add several months before construction begins.
- How Much Does a Whole Home Remodel Cost?expand_more
- Whole home remodels with Skor typically range from $200,000 to $500,000 and up, depending on home size, scope, and finish level. Larger homes, higher-end finishes, structural changes, additions, and full system updates push the cost higher. Every proposal includes design, permits, labor, and materials.
- Do We Have to Move Out During a Whole Home Remodel?expand_more
- It depends on the scope. Smaller, room-by-room whole home projects can sometimes be phased so you stay in the home, while larger projects that involve the kitchen, baths, and main living areas at once usually go faster and cleaner with you out of the house. We walk you through realistic expectations during the design phase so you can plan accordingly.
- Is It Better to Remodel or Move?expand_more
- For most of our clients, remodeling wins, especially if you love your neighborhood, your lot, and your school district. Moving carries real costs that homeowners often underestimate: realtor fees, transfer taxes, moving costs, and the premium of buying into a more expensive home. A whole home remodel lets you stay where you already want to be while getting the home you need with the features you want.
Our Design-Build Process
It starts with a quick discovery call and an in-person visit, where we walk the space, talk through what you want, and pressure-test ideas against your budget. Within about a week, we send a written investment range so you can decide whether to move forward before anyone designs in a vacuum.
We move into paid design with our architect and interior design partners, producing real floor plans, 3D renderings, and guided selections for finishes and materials. We coordinate the trades and handle permitting, then close with a detailed, fixed-price construction proposal covering scope, allowances, and schedule.
With your approval, we start construction, led by a dedicated project manager with weekly check-ins, so you always know what's happening and what's next. You leave with a finished space, a written workmanship warranty, and a real human to call if anything needs attention down the road.

Skor Construction is fabulous. I was looking for a general contractor for a home addition and renovations. Anton took the time to keep me posted and respected my time and budget. He conducted a home visit, spending hours talking about options, processes, and what to expect. His knowledge and understanding greatly impressed me. I would recommend Anton and his team 10 out of 10 times.
