QUALITY DESIGN-BUILD REMODELS FOR ROLLING MEADOWS' MID-CENTURY HOMES

Rolling Meadows homeowners want quality work without estate-level budgets

The Rolling Meadows housing stock is mostly 1950s and 1960s mid-century ranches and some 1970s splits. Smaller lots and tighter footprints than the surrounding Inverness or Hawthorn Woods estates, but the same opportunity: a 1960s layout reworked into a 2026 floor plan. The homeowners here typically want premium-tier work at the lower end of the budget spectrum, which is a real and reasonable ask.

Skor Construction does Rolling Meadows projects with that frame in mind. The cabinetry is semi-custom rather than fully custom. The counters are quartz rather than quartzite. The appliance package is high-mid-range rather than Sub-Zero/Wolf. The result still looks and functions great, and the budget lands in the $100,000 to $250,000 range rather than the $300,000+ range you'd see in surrounding villages.

We're a design-build firm, 15 years in business, working throughout Rolling Meadows, Palatine, and Mount Prospect.

The City of Rolling Meadows permit process

Rolling Meadows has a standard residential permit process. Building permits run 4 to 6 weeks for standard remodels. Plumbing and electrical sub-permits filed alongside the building permit. Structural changes (which is often the wall coming down between the kitchen and family room in mid-century ranches) require architect-stamped drawings.

We handle the submittals, inspections, and City coordination through final walkthrough. The two-phase contract structure keeps scope clear: design separately signed, then build separately signed, with stamped drawings the homeowner owns. Total pre-construction timeline: 8 to 10 weeks for a typical kitchen.

What we build in Rolling Meadows

Kitchen remodels are the most common project, and the typical mid-century Rolling Meadows kitchen needs the wall coming down between the kitchen and the family room or dining area. Once the wall is engineered out, the project includes new flooring across the merged spaces, semi-custom Shaker cabinetry, quartz counters with an island, mid-range appliance integration, and a redesigned lighting plan.

Primary bath updates and basement finishes round out the most common work. Rolling Meadows kitchen remodels typically run $75,000 to $175,000, lower than surrounding villages because of the smaller original footprints and the value-tier finishes. Whole-home remodels $150,000 to $300,000. Kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, basement finishing, and home additions.

Rolling Meadows remodeling FAQs

The questions we hear most often from homeowners in Rolling Meadows and the surrounding Northwest suburbs and North Shore.

How long does a Rolling Meadows kitchen remodel take?expand_more

A full Rolling Meadows kitchen remodel runs 8 to 12 weeks of construction. Wall removal projects take longer than layout-only refreshes. City permits typically run 4 to 6 weeks. Total timeline from contract to walkthrough: 14 to 20 weeks for a structural kitchen.

What does a Rolling Meadows remodel cost?expand_more

Kitchen remodels in Rolling Meadows typically run $75,000 to $175,000, lower than surrounding villages because of the smaller original footprints. Primary bath remodels $40,000 to $100,000. Basement finishes $75,000 to $200,000. Whole-home remodels $150,000 to $300,000.

Can I still get high-quality cabinetry and counters at a lower budget?expand_more

Yes. Semi-custom cabinetry tiers (Kraftmaid, Decora, Schrock) deliver excellent quality at 40 to 60 percent of fully custom pricing. Quartz counters from brands like Cambria and Silestone perform identically to quartzite at lower price points. The trade-offs are mostly in customization options rather than quality.

Do you work in the Plum Grove area?expand_more

Yes. Plum Grove and the older Rolling Meadows subdivisions near Rolling Meadows HS are frequent project areas. The 1960s housing stock there benefits from the same kitchen and main-level reworks we do throughout the NW suburbs.

Will I have to move out during the remodel?expand_more

For most Rolling Meadows kitchen and bath remodels, clients stay in the home with a temporary setup. We isolate the work zone with plastic walls, set up daily cleanup routines, and stage materials to minimize disruption. For whole-home gut work, moving out for the demolition and rough-in phases is usually safer.

Our Design-Build Process

1 | Plan

It starts with a quick discovery call and an in-person visit, where we walk the space, talk through what you want, and pressure-test ideas against your budget. Within about a week, we send a written investment range so you can decide whether to move forward before anyone designs in a vacuum.

2 | Design/Proposal

We move into paid design with our architect and interior design partners, producing real floor plans, 3D renderings, and guided selections for finishes and materials. We coordinate the trades and handle permitting, then close with a detailed, fixed-price construction proposal covering scope, allowances, and schedule.

3 | Build

With your approval, we start construction, led by a dedicated project manager with weekly check-ins, so you always know what's happening and what's next. You leave with a finished space, a written workmanship warranty, and a real human to call if anything needs attention down the road.

Skor Construction is fabulous. I was looking for a general contractor for a home addition and renovations. Anton took the time to keep me posted and respected my time and budget. He conducted a home visit, spending hours talking about options, processes, and what to expect. His knowledge and understanding greatly impressed me. I would recommend Anton and his team 10 out of 10 times.
