KITCHEN AND WHOLE-HOME REMODELS FOR GLENVIEW'S MID-CENTURY AND TRANSITIONAL HOMES

The Westover ranches are ready for their second update

The mid-century ranches in Westover and the older parts of Glenview got their first kitchen refresh sometime in the 1990s. Honey oak cabinetry, beige counters, the standard appliance package of the era. Twenty-five years later, those updates feel as dated as what they replaced. Homeowners are ready for the second round.

Skor Construction remodels Glenview kitchens with semi-custom or fully custom Shaker cabinetry, quartzite or quartz counters, large islands with seating, and panel-ready appliance integration. Walls usually come down between the kitchen and the family room or dining area. The mid-century footprint becomes an open-concept main floor without losing the home's character.

We've done a gut rehab in Glenview, and our work extends throughout The Glen, Westover, Glen Oak, and the older neighborhoods near downtown. Most kitchen projects here run $70,000 to $200,000.

Glenview has two permit tracks depending on where you live

The Village of Glenview applies different building code standards to homes in The Glen versus older parts of town. The Glen, built on the former Naval Air Station site, follows the master-planned community standards. The older areas including Westover and Old Glenview follow standard residential code. Permit turnaround runs 3 to 5 weeks for either track.

We submit appropriate plans based on where the home sits. Structural changes go through licensed engineering. Electrical and plumbing sub-permits are filed alongside the building permit. The whole pre-construction phase from contract signing to construction start typically takes 8 to 12 weeks for a kitchen project, longer for whole-home work.

Kitchen Remodeling in Glenview, IL

The Glenview kitchen remodel almost always involves a wall coming down. The original 1960s or 1970s floor plan separated the kitchen from the family room and dining area, and modern families want one connected space. Once the wall is out, the project includes structural beam installation, HVAC and electrical rework, new flooring across the merged space, and a fully redesigned kitchen with a large island as the centerpiece.

Custom cabinetry, quartzite or quartz countertops, panel-ready refrigerator and dishwasher, induction or gas cooktop, wall ovens, and a designed lighting plan with recessed cans, pendant fixtures over the island, and under-cabinet LED. Most Glenview kitchen projects run $70,000 to $200,000 depending on cabinetry tier and finish selections.

Kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, basement finishing, and home additions are all part of what we do for Glenview homeowners.

Glenview remodeling FAQs

The questions we hear most often from homeowners in Glenview and the surrounding Northwest suburbs and North Shore.

How long does a kitchen remodel in Glenview take?expand_more

A full Glenview kitchen remodel runs 10 to 14 weeks of construction. Wall removal projects take longer than layout-only refreshes because of structural engineering, beam installation, and HVAC rework. Village permits typically run 3 to 5 weeks. Total timeline from contract to walkthrough: 16 to 22 weeks.

What does a kitchen remodel in Glenview cost?expand_more

A full Glenview kitchen remodel runs $70,000 to $200,000. Wall removal projects with structural work tend to land in the middle to higher end of that range. Bathrooms run $30,000 to $150,000, basements $55,000 to $250,000, and whole-home remodels $200,000 to $300,000.

Can you remove the wall between my kitchen and family room?expand_more

Yes. Wall removal is the single most common request on Glenview kitchen projects. We coordinate structural engineering, the Village permit process, beam installation, and the rework of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing that lives in that wall. The beam is sized for the actual load and the engineered drawings are submitted with the permit.

Do you work in The Glen as well as the older parts of Glenview?expand_more

Yes. The Glen homes are newer (early 2000s and later) so the work tends to be lifestyle upgrades like primary suite expansions and basement finishes rather than full layout reworks. Westover, Old Glenview, and Glen Oak are where the bigger kitchen and whole-home projects happen.

Can you work with my existing architect or designer?expand_more

Yes. About a third of our Glenview projects come in with drawings already in hand. We review them, flag anything that won't pass Village inspection or fits outside the realistic budget, and then build to those plans. If revisions are needed we coordinate directly with your designer.

Our Design-Build Process

1 | Plan

It starts with a quick discovery call and an in-person visit, where we walk the space, talk through what you want, and pressure-test ideas against your budget. Within about a week, we send a written investment range so you can decide whether to move forward before anyone designs in a vacuum.

2 | Design/Proposal

We move into paid design with our architect and interior design partners, producing real floor plans, 3D renderings, and guided selections for finishes and materials. We coordinate the trades and handle permitting, then close with a detailed, fixed-price construction proposal covering scope, allowances, and schedule.

3 | Build

With your approval, we start construction, led by a dedicated project manager with weekly check-ins, so you always know what's happening and what's next. You leave with a finished space, a written workmanship warranty, and a real human to call if anything needs attention down the road.

Skor Construction is fabulous. I was looking for a general contractor for a home addition and renovations. Anton took the time to keep me posted and respected my time and budget. He conducted a home visit, spending hours talking about options, processes, and what to expect. His knowledge and understanding greatly impressed me. I would recommend Anton and his team 10 out of 10 times.
